SOUTH BEND – The South Bend Cubs Monday swept a doubleheader from the Peoria Chiefs at Four Winds Field by scores of 9-8 and 9-2.

In game one, South Bend recorded their tenth walk-off win of the year.

Albert Mineo delivered the game-winning RBI single in the seventh inning (final inning) by hitting a hard ground ball to left field scoring Eddy Martinez.

Martinez had tied the game two batters earlier with a two-run single. The 21-year-old Cuban outfielder finished the game with a home run and a career high four runs batted in.

In game two, South Bend erased an early 2-0 deficit and scored nine unanswered runs.

Eloy Jimenez homered in the second inning to get the Cubs on the board and added a go ahead RBI with a single in the third.

Martinez picked up a bases loaded walk to bring his RBI total for the doubleheader to five.

South Bend put the game away with a six-run sixth inning highlighted by Albert Mineo and Roberto Caro with two-run singles.

South Bend will enjoy a day off before heading to Lake County for a three game series, with game one beginning on Wednesday, July 27.
