BERRIEN COUNTY — Multiple shots were fired at the Berrien County Courthouse Monday afternoon. Three people are dead.

The shooting happened around 2:30 p.m.

A Berrien County Commissioner told Vahid Sadrzadeh on scene that a man who was on his way to jail took a gun off a deputy and started opening fire.

The commissioner also told ABC57 three people are dead.

Sheriff Paul Bailey held a press conference this afternoon. He said the shooting happened on the third floor of the courthouse.

He said two bailiffs were killed and a deputy was injured. The shooter was also killed. Several civilians were also injured, but Bailey did not know an exact number. Bailey said he did not know how the suspect got the gun he used.

A three block perimeter has been set around the courthouse. Avoid the area if possible. There are still some people inside the courthouse, according to Sean whose family members are still inside. Another press conference will be held at 6 p.m.
