SYRACUSE — The Syracuse Lions held the Fish Fry and Stan Fox Memorial Silent Auction, one of its biggest fundraisers of the year from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 1 at the Syracuse Community Center.

The auction was named after one of its founders, Stan Fox, who passed away in 2010. Fox was an active Lion who  earned many awards, including the Gus Duehrnig Memorial Golden Lion and the Presidential Award. “He was a long time Lion,” said his sister, Sally Springer, who traveled with her family from Houston, Texas to take part in the event. Fox’s wife, Becky, is also a Lion.

Family Pride — Sally Spriner, left, the sister of Stan Fox, for whom the Lions silent auction was named, attended Friday with her daughter, Stacy Farber, Steve Springer, and granddaughter Lindsey Farber, who traveled from Houston, Texas.

“We’ve been doing it for over 50 years,” said Judy Jarrett, one of the fish fry’s primary organizers. Jarrett herself has been involved in the event for the last nine years. “We usually serve at least 500 people. It’s one of our biggest projects,” she added.

Proceeds from the fish fry and silent auction go to back to the community. The $10 entry fee included entry into the silent auction, which featured art, gift certificates and more, all of it donated by local merchants and private citizens.
