Margaret E. Leonhard, 99, North Manchester, died at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Peabody Health Care Center in North Manchester. She was born Dec. 11, 1916, in Wabash County, to William and Clara (Miller) Baker.
Margaret was a 1934 graduate of Chester High School. She married George A. Leonhard on Oct. 20, 1936, in Huntington; he died Dec. 31, 2001. She worked as a cook at Chester High School and a seamstress at Oppenheim’s, North Manchester. She was an active member of the Congregational Christian Church for 99 years; teaching Sunday School, participating in the Dorcas Society, and singing in the choir. She was also a member of the Town and Country Women’s Club, and sang with the Peabody Entertainers. She enjoyed flowers, sewing, and cooking.
She is survived by two children: George William “Bill” (Donna) Leonhard, Fort Wayne; and Judy (Roger) Moore, North Manchester; three grandchildren: Melissa (Jeff) Werner; and Bill (Denise) Leonhard, both of North Manchester; and Stephanie (Andy) Castleman, Carmel; stepgrandson: Michael (Diana) Moore, Sugar Grove, Ill.; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a brother: Richard Baker.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Congregational Christian Church, North Manchester, with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia. Friends may call an hour prior to the service at the church.
