WARSAW — John Thomas Young, 37, 5818 Langford Road, Fort Wayne, is being charged with a level 2 felony of aiding, inducing or causing dealing in methamphetamine, possession of meth with enhancing circumstances, a level 3 felony and a class C misdemeanor of possession of paraphernalia.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, on June 25, Warsaw Police Officer Phillip Hawks observed a green four-door Pontiac. Hawks reported the driver gave him a frightened look. He followed the vehicle when it drove left of the center line and then turned into a bowling alley without using a turn signal.

Hawks saw a male passenger exit the vehicle and head toward the bowling alley and he told him repeatedly to stop. Hawks attempted to cut the man off and prevent him from entering the building, but failed.

Hawks then approached the male driver, who was identified as Young, and a minor child. When Young exited the vehicle $20 fell out onto the ground.

Warsaw Police Officer Steven Rocky entered the bowling alley and attempted to locate the man who had fled from Young’s vehicle. He spoke with a bowling alley employee, who reported a man fitting the description given to him had entered the bowling alley and threw several bags onto the floor next to the front counter, ran around inside, then left.

The plastic bag the man had thrown contained a white, crystal substance that was packaged to sell. The substance was field-tested and was positive for meth and weighted 11.2 grams.

Warsaw Police Officer Trent Shively used his K-9 to conduct an outer air search of the Pontiac and the canine alerted. When officers searched the vehicle they found three $20 bills, a cell phone, an external hard drive and a glass smoking device with a white powdery residue, which tested positive for meth.

Hawks gave Young a series of field sobriety tests and he failed all of them. Young was then transported to Kosciusko County Hospital for a blood test, which was sent to an outside lab for testing.

Young is being held on a surety and cash bond of $25,250.
