Mary L. Rose, 83, Mentone, passed at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016, at her residence.
She was born on Dec. 6, 1932, in South Bend, to Paul Lanson and Mara Louise (Vandermark) Summy.
She was married on May 3, 1953, in Mentone, to James Richard Rose at her parents’ home where she was raised. He preceded on April 6, 2009.
She had worked at Horn Sunny Meade Restaurant, Murphy Medical Center, Miller’s Merry Manor, Steer Inn Restaurant, Lucky Steer Restaurant, Liberty Cafe, delivered The Paper, and she also baby-sat.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as well as going to church. She was a member of both the Mentone United Methodist Church, and was a longtime member of the Burket United Methodist Church as she was in the quilt club and prayer and share group. She was also a longtime member of Pithian Sisters and Mentone Senior Site.
Survivors include a daughter: Tamara Louise Rose, Mentone; three sons: James Allen (Joyce) Rose, Warsaw; Kevin Dean (Lynn) Rose, Warsaw; and Jeffrey Lynn (Nelta) Rose, Mentone; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law: Viola Summy; Betty Leek; Dean Blackford; and Barbara Blackford; and Harold Julian; as well as many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: James R. Rose; son: Terry Lee Rose in 1976; brothers: Clyde Summy; and Norman Summy; brothers-in-law: Frank Rose; and Leslie Rose; sisters-in-law: Willodean Summy; Donna Rose; Georgia Rose; and Margaret Julian.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 30, with casual dress request at Burket United Methodist Church, with Pastor Gary Loy officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery. Hartzler Funeral Services is handling arrangements.
