ELKHART COUNTY – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that traffic traveling on US 6 near CR 29 in Elkhart County will experience slow-moving traffic and temporary 20-minute road closures throughout the day Wednesday, June 29.
On the morning of Wednesday, June 29, between the hours of 5-8 a.m., traffic on US 6 near CR 29 will be directed by flaggers while heavy equipment is moved into the construction site. Between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. drivers on US 6 will experience temporary road closures for up to 20 minutes at a time. The road closures will allow contractors to set four beams in place for the new CR 29 bridge over US 6. From 3-5 p.m., traffic will again be directed by flaggers while the heavy equipment is removed from the construction site.
Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes. All traffic restrictions and closures will be completed by 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, weather permitting.
The project will improve safety for motorists on both CR 29 and US 6. The overpass is expected to be completed by early October, weather permitting. The contract was awarded to Superior Construction for $2.3 million.
