WARSAW — After weeks of hard work, a group of Kosciusko County teens will present their very own films to the community. A red carpet film premiere will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 24 at the Kosciusko Community Foundation, 102 East Market St., Warsaw.

Kosciusko Cares provided a free Summer Film Camp for area teens ages 14-18. During the film camp, teens were involved in the writing process and learning crew roles on a film set. Seven teens attended this year’s camp and an additional 8 teens acted in the films.

“We provide creative programming as well as evidence based programming in Kosciusko County which we feel serve our greater purpose and mission,” said Jessica Hardy, Kosciusko Cares Media Coordinator. “We identify activities that teens want but are not offered in the county. We try to develop programming to fulfill these needs. Our teen coalition identified Film Camp as a program that would likely excite teens in the community.”

The campers spent one week working on writing the films and the second week was spent filming. Everything was done by the teens except for the video editing, which was done by a professional editor. This year’s film camp was successful and the Kosciusko Cares members are already looking forward to the next camp.

“We plan to offer film camp next year with longer programming covering other aspects such as acting for film and editing,” said Hardy. “This was our pilot program. We will continue to identify other programs that teens would like to see in the community as well.”

The Film Camp premiere is open to the public at 5:30 p.m. on June 24. The night will start with a red carpet step and repeat for the guests, crew and actors. Refreshments will also be available during this time. The screening of the films will start at 6:30 p.m. with a question and answer session to follow. The attire is semi-formal to formal and RSVPs are recommended.
