KOSCIUSKO — Kosciusko County Head Start has announced it has openings in their preschool program for the coming school year and is accepting applications.

Head Start is a federally funded, income-based preschool program for children 3-5 years of age. Families must apply to determine if they qualify. Classrooms for the new 2016-17 school year are in Claypool, Leesburg, Mentone, Pierceton, North Webster and Warsaw. The Claypool and Leesburg classrooms are new this year.

Some things to know about Head Start:

• Serves children ages 3-5 years
• Income-based eligibility
• No cost to families
• Breakfast, lunch and snacks are included
•Six hour days, Monday-Thursday
• Offers home-based preschool option
• Focus on Kindergarten readiness skills
• Math, reading, writing and Science Skills
• Parent opportunities
