Tonight’s, June 15, Republican Caucus for a new Syracuse Town Council member will be a formality as only Larry Martindale sought the seat vacated by Brian Wood last month.
Martindale said he thought someone should “represent our area that cared for the town.” Ward 4 covers the majority of the west side of Syracuse. “I know I don’t know a lot about it (being on the council). I understand I have a lot to learn.”
Martindale said Woody has stopped by and discussed the position with him. He will have to drop off the Syracuse Zoning Board, which he has been a member for many years.
Martindale is no stranger to the community. He ran the local baseball program for 30 some years and has been an active member of Wawasee Kiwanis. He and his wife, Patty, attend Milford Christian Church. The couple have been married for 53 years and have lived in Syracuse for 49 years.
Martindale worked at Dana for 28 1/2 years where he was in charge of the emergency response team and EPA regulations. “I got all the government stuff,” he said.
Martindale and his best friend, Dick Pelletier, were instrumental in the development of the Harold Schrock Athletic Complex. More recently, the two were working on the playground at Lakeland Day Care. Martindale promised to finish the project that was started by Pelletier.
Pelletier nominated him to be a torch bearer for the state’s bicentennial celebration later this fall and he was accepted. Pelletier was also nominated and will be represented by his family.
