LEESBURG — Wine aficionados will no longer have to travel far to enjoy a glass of wine. Tippy Creek Winery, located at 5920 N. CR 200E, Leesburg, features wine, fermented on location, wine slushies, hard cider and pitchers of sangria. The winery also provides wine tastings and wine flights for those wanting to experience multiple flavors in one trip.

Owners Daniel and Lori Richcreek have dreamed about opening a business for the last 10 years. Around five years ago their children bought Daniel a wine making kit, which he started using and giving away to friends. After the created wine started receiving positive feedback, the couple decided that their dream would be to open their own winery.

“We’ve visited most of the wineries in the Michigan and Indianapolis areas,” said Lori. “When we came back from those trips we would sit right at this spot in lawn chairs drinking the wine we brought back and dreaming.”

All the dreaming paid off around three years ago when the couple officially constructed their business plan and Tippy Creek Winery started taking shape.

All of their wines are locally themed with names such as Chapman Catawba and Papakeechie Peach. The local lake theme gives an interesting aspect to the winery and invites local residents to support the business. Community support has been in abundance as the winery has had their soft opening over the past couple weeks.

“The community has just rallied behind us and it’s been amazing,” said Lori. “We want people from the community to come here to relax and reconnect with old friends.”

The winery is open 4-7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon until 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Lori and Daniel are expecting their hours to expand when their daughter Lindsey joins the business in July. During the weekends, musical guests and food trucks, including Chatterbox, will be a common addition at the winery.

Tippy Creek Winery will hold its official grand opening this weekend, June 18 and 19. Chatterbox food truck will be there along with live music by David Evan, Adam Macphail and Rachael Turner. Guests are invited to bring a lawn chair to sit out and enjoy the music with company. For more information about the opening weekend or other musical performances, visit their Facebook page.
