Warsaw Golf: Huge Test Ahead Of Sectional

BATTLE GROUND – The cliches could be aplenty, but truth be told, Saturday’s Lafayette Jeff Classic was a chance for some of the premier boys golf clubs to take aim at one another. A week out from sectionals, the Classic gave some of the finer programs a true tune-up for what’s to come.

Carmel rose to the top at Battle Ground Golf Club, shooting a 304 to top the 21-team field from all over northern Indiana. Zionsville was runner-up at 311, and locally, Warsaw was ninth at 340, Rochester 14th at 352, Triton 16th at 360 and Lakeland 20th at 378.

Sam Yeager and Michael Jensen led the Tigers with rounds of 83. Tommy Meier held an 85, Luke Delp fired an 88 and Tim Rata shot a 90 to round out the Warsaw scoring.

Scores from the Classic were: Carmel 304, Zionsville 311, Indianapolis Brebeuf 325, Indianapolis Chatard 328, Crown Point 328, Brownsburg 330, Guerin Catholic 334, Indianapolis Cathedral 339, Warsaw 340, Lake Central 345, Lafayette Central Catholic 345, Lebanon 352, Michigan City 352, Rochester 352, Lafayette Jeff 355, Triton 360, Western 361, Ben Davis 372, Franklin Central 374, Lakeland 378, LaPorte 379.

Warsaw’s JV team also worked Saturday, taking part in the LaVille Invite. Plymouth won the title with a 327. Warsaw shot a 357 to finish fourth.

Luke Johnson led the Tigers with an 82, with Rob Sullivan just back at 83. Jacob LaLonde turned in a 91, Trent Rapp had a 101 and Chase Byron had a 102.

Scores from the Invite were: Plymouth 327, Michigan City Marquette 346, LaVille 355, Warsaw 357, Tippecanoe Valley 372, Triton Gold 374, Triton Blue 386, Culver 410.
