EASTLAKE, OHIO – Carson Sands tossed another fine outing, leading the South Bend Cubs to a 6-3 win Monday and a series sweep of the Lake County Captains.

Sands went seven innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs while striking out three.

Sands was bailed out of a 3-1 hole when the Cubs scored three runs in the top of the sixth. Jesse Hodges cracked an RBI double and Tyler Alamo followed with a two-run homer to give the Cubs a 4-3 lead.

Eloy Jimenez added an RBI double and the Cubs (26-16) scored two runs on balks in the game.

Ki’ai Tom and Willi Castro each had RBIs for Lake County (24-20).

Casey Bloomquist worked the final two innings for South Bend to pick up his fourth save of the season.

South Bend ends its 14-game road trip 9-5 and will head home for a series starting Tuesday with Great Lakes, a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
