NEW PARIS — The New Paris Chamber of Commerce, Goshen Veteran’s Honor Guard and the New Paris Boy Scouts will be conducting a memorial service parade and ceremony beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 29, according to Elkhart County Sheriff Brad Rogers and Scoutmaster of New Paris Boy Scouts.

Anyone is welcome to ride on any vehicle or walk in the parade which will begin on Division Street, north of Seventh Street at the old Burger Dairy plant and will wind through the town to New Paris cemetery on Market Street, east of Walnut Street.

Jim Bontrager, the senior chaplain of Elkhart City Police Department will be the keynote speaker for the New Paris Memorial Day service, starting at approximately 2:15 p.m. Julia Obendorf will be the guest vocalist.

The families of veterans Harper Garris, Louis Stump, and James Ellis will also be in attendance as the service will be dedicated to their memory. A flyover is planned during the event. An ice cream social will follow at Sunnyside Park at approximately 3 p.m. Bring chairs.
