Lions Get One Back
Bremen exacted a bit of redemption Friday in the annual measuring stick game between two ranked opponents. After Wawasee claimed a win over Bremen earlier this season at the Eastside Tournament, the Class 2-A No. 9 Lions won Friday over the Class 3-A No. 6 Warriors, 5-4, at Sunnyside Park in Bremen.
Meghan Fretz did all she could, homering and driving in three. Fretz’s two-run homer in the fourth tied the game at three and Fretz later singled in a run in the sixth. Allissa Flores added an RBI double and scored two runs. Kayla White added a hit and run scored.
Fretz allowed just four Bremen hits but also walked five batters. Of the five runs Bremen scored, only one was earned as the Warriors committed an uncharacteristic six errors in the field. Chelsea Huppert got the win for Bremen, striking out three.
Wawasee got the win in the JV game with a 9-4 final over Bremen. Stats were not provided. Wawasee (12-5) closes out its JV season Saturday in the Wawasee Invite.
The Warriors (22-5) head into the sectional at Fairfield with a matchup Monday against West Noble. Game starts at 5 p.m.
Frosh Routed By Memorial
Elkhart Memorial’s freshman baseball squad had plenty of offense in an 18-6 win against Wawasee Friday afternoon in Syracuse.
Stats were not provided for the contest.
Wawasee falls to 3-4 overall and will meet Goshen Tuesday at Rogers Park in Goshen.
