Evelyn M. Gilmer, 98, a Cleveland Township, Whitley County native, died Friday morning, May 20, 2016, at the home of her daughter, Sharon Monroe, where she had made her residence since November 2012.

She was born August 20, 1917, in Cleveland Township, Whitley County, a daughter of Chester and Mary (Norris) Bollinger. She graduated from South Whitley High School.

On February 24, 1938, she was united in marriage to Herbert R. Gilmer. They made their home in Cleveland Township until Rev. Gilmer began his pastorate in Indiana and Ohio. In 1983, they returned to South Whitley until 1999, when they moved to Warsaw. Rev. Gilmer died September 23, 2003.

A homemaker, she also worked in the kitchen at the Brethren Care Facility in Ashland, Ohio from 1979 until 1983, and delivered Meals on Wheels from 1989 until 1994.

Evelyn was a member of County Line Brethren Church in Lakeville.

Surviving relatives include two sons: Rev. Arden (Roberta) Gilmer of Winchester, Va.; and Rev. James (Treasure) Gilmer of Winona Lake; two daughters: Sharon Monroe of Springfield Ohio; and Beth Ellen (Steve) Barber of Plymouth; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson and a brother, Joseph Bollinger.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Missionary Board of the Brethren Church.
