WARSAW —The flavor of the day was “local” at the Warsaw tennis sectional Thursday night. Warsaw, Whitko, Wawasee and Tippecanoe Valley met on the court for the right to advance to Friday’s sectional championship. The two Northern Lakes Conference schools reigned supreme as Warsaw downed Whitko 5-0 while Wawasee ousted Valley 4-1.

On the singles courts the Tigers did not waltz through Whitko, but proved to be the superior team. Liza Lewis defeated Morgan Keirn 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Collette Smith went 6-2, 6-1 to defeat Delaney Keirn at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles Ella Knight was impressive in her victory over Jackie Werstler, winning 6-0, 6-0.

The doubles courts were much less competitive. Hannah Rice and Athena Schlitt won 6-0, 6-1 over Jenna Van Curen and Natalie Iholtz. Rosie Fleming and Grace Miller picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Brookelyn Prater and Gabrielle Lancaster.

Wawasee, which defeated Columbia City 3-2 on Wednesday, once again found the way to a win.

Jazlyn Gehlhausen won at No. 1 singles with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Aerin Shewman. Meg Heinisch was solid at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lea Stouder. On the doubles courts it was Kabrea Rostochak and Charity Parker earning a win over Morgan Brazo and Kennedy Niedbalski, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2 doubles Kendra Doerr and Courtney Larson won 6-4, 6-1 over Cassidy Cave and Brooke Danner.

Maddy Henninger was the lone Viking to get a win as she defeated Peyton Rookstool 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.

Wawasee and Warsaw will meet back at Warsaw’s courts Friday night for the sectional championship. The Tigers defeated the Warriors 5-0 earlier this season.
