Warsaw Softball: Chargers Rally Stuns Tigers
ELKHART – A five-run seventh inning lifted Elkhart Memorial to a 6-5 softball win Thursday in the final game of the Northern Lakes Conference season.
Memorial started the inning with an RBI groundout from Syd Ryan. A two-run error later in the inning cut Warsaw’s lead to 5-4. Alexa Swearengin then capped the drama with a two-out single to left that scored a run, and on the play, Shelby Buss would come around to score all the way from first.
The wild finish moved Memorial to 9-15 overall and tied with Goshen and NorthWood for fourth in the NLC at 7-7.
Warsaw built a 5-0 lead with a pair of RBIs from Lauren Shaffner, who doubled and hit a sacrifice fly. Abby Glass added an RBI and Sarah Shoemaker scored a pair of runs.
Warsaw falls to 5-18 overall and finishes 5-9 in the NLC, seventh place to themselves.
Warsaw will finish with a pair of non-conference games. Friday, Warsaw visits Tippecanoe Valley then hosts Three Rivers Conference champion Manchester Saturday in the regular season finale.
Warsaw will host the Class 4-A sectional and plays Northridge Wednesday. Memorial plays Goshen Monday in the Warsaw Sectional opening game.
