Baseball Earns Rare Non-Conference Win

It’s been awhile since Warsaw chalked up a win in the non-conference. April 19, to be exact, until Wednesday when the Tigers beat Mishawaka 4-2 in the Princess City.

The Tigers had gone a full month since it beat South Bend Clay, but beat another Northern Indiana Conference opponent on the strength of Marselo Rodriguez’s three hits and two more from Braxton Tennant.

Blake Foreman got the win on the hill for Warsaw, which as a staff held the Cavemen to just three hits.

Warsaw had 11 hits on the day.

The Tigers lost the JV game 2-1.

Warsaw moves to 12-9 overall and prepare for Thursday’s showdown at home against Elkhart Memorial. A win by the Tigers would clinch a share of the Northern Lakes Conference championship with Plymouth, which beat Northridge, 3-2, Wednesday. Plymouth sits at 10-4, Warsaw at 9-4. Northridge is 9-5 in the NLC, NorthWood, with a game left against Wawasee, is 8-5.

First pitch against Memorial is 5 p.m.

Warsaw Splits In Final NLC Dual

Warsaw settled at 5-2 in the Northern Lakes Conference golf round robin after a 165 left the Tigers short of Plymouth’s 151 and over Memorial’s 182 Wednesday afternoon at Christiana Creek Golf Course in Elkhart.

Plymouth’s two wins moved the Pilgrims into a tie with Warsaw for third in the NLC with Northridge at 5-0 and Wawasee at 4-1 with the two set to meet each other Thursday at Spring Arbor.

At CCGC, Hudson Yoder led Plymouth with a fine round of 35 with teammate Grant Clady at 37, John Gerard at 39 and Colin Caine at 40. Plymouth No. 1 Micah Calhoun finished at 44.

Warsaw was led by the exploits of Luke Delp, who shot a 39 from the five hole. Sam Yeager had a 40, Tim Rata a 42, Tommy Meier a 44 and Michael Jensen a 46.

Mike Foy led Memorial with a 40, and the duo of Kyle Stansbury and David Fiant had 43s. Preston Foryes shot a 56 and Christian Donovan shot a 64.

Memorial’s JV shot a 174 to Plymouth’s 175 and Warsaw’s 185. Chase Byron and Jacob LaLonde each had 45s to lead Warsaw.

Warsaw will prep for the Northern Lakes Conference tournament this Saturday at McCormick Creek Golf Course.
