Triton Sports Wrap: May 16
Trojans Pitch Shutout At Riley
Monday’s show of force was a great way for Triton girls tennis to head into the sectional tournament.
A 5-0 win at South Bend Riley in the final regular season match for the Trojan girls tennis team had all courts in via 6-0 shutouts. Shayla May, Kolbie Mason and Quinn Downing all took singles wins and the duo of Hannah Wanemacher and Emma Ross claimed a one doubles victory. Triton’s two doubles team of Tatum Thompson and Megan McFarland won via forfeit.
Triton finishes the regular season at 13-1 overall and head into a very competitive Bremen Girls Tennis Sectional. Triton plays Thursday against the Wednesday winner between Bremen and LaVille. Bremen handed Triton its only court loss this season, a 3-2 final on May 5 at Bremen. Plymouth and Glenn play in Thursday’s other match.
Bremen’s championship match will take place Friday. All matches start at 4:30 p.m.
Softball Drops Game At Old Foe
A meeting between old Northern State Conference teams saw New Prairie hold off Triton, 7-5, Monday in New Carlisle.
Triton trailed 7-2 in the seventh inning, only to fall short of the supreme rally after plating three in the final frame. The Trojans left the bases loaded but popped out to second to end the rally.
Taytum Hargrave had two hits and a walk, Megan Berger drove in two runs and Nicole Sechrist scored twice.
Lauren White, Alayna Rodriguez, Erica Hesters and Kenna Young all had two hits for the Cougars.
Triton (9-10) will meet another former NSC pal when the Trojans travel Tuesday to John Glenn.
