Plymouth Rallies To Beat Softball

After Triton had taken a 6-5 lead after the top of the sixth, Plymouth rallied with two runs in the bottom half and held on for a 7-6 softball win Saturday morning at Plymouth.

Courtney Jennings gave Triton the lead in the sixth after hitting a sacrifice fly to score Crystal Brown. But in the bottom half, Plymouth used three straight singles to load the bases. Ashley Shepperd then tied the game on a sacrifice fly, and after an out, Mackenzie Derifield had an RBI single to give the Pilgrims the lead.

Triton’s Megan Berger led off the seventh with a walk and reached second on a sacrifice bunt. A lineout made two outs and Berger was then called out on offensive interference in the baselines to end the game.

Berger hit her third home run of the season earlier in the game, Jennings had an RBI double and Kate Gardner added a two-run single.

Mimi Southwell hit a two-run homer for the Pilgrims (3-18), who had Zoe Krilman get the win in the circle, striking out four. Jennings took the loss, striking out five.

Triton (9-9) plays Monday at New Prairie.

Trojans Drop Two At Pioneer

Triton wasn’t able to muster much against Class 1-A No. 2 Pioneer, losing both games of a doubleheader Saturday 10-0 and 10-0.

Game one was a five-inning affair, with Pioneer scoring four runs in the first inning and four more in the fourth. Game two was much of the same, except the game went seven innings. Pioneer scored a run in every inning but the fifth, posting five runs in the fourth.

Statistics were not made immediately available after the games.

Triton (8-12) will visit Culver Community Thursday as part of a home-and-home, with the Cavaliers playing at Triton Friday.
