WARSAW — As the weather warms up and summer approaches, more and more outdoor activities become available for play, including Disc Golf. Harrison Elementary School is host to a Disc Golf course in Warsaw, an attractive game for many.

Disc Golf is played much like normal golf, only instead of balls, the players throw discs or frisbees and attempt to complete different sections of the course in as few throws as possible.

“I would say that if the weather is nice, we’ll always have a group out here playing,” said Scott Mehlberg, the Harrison Elementary physical education teacher, who also helps keep track of the Disc Golf course.

“It (disc golf) is something that is starting to catch on. It’s a non-traditional sport where you don’t have to be superior athletically to be involved in it… It’s a great way to get exercise for anybody of any skill level,” Mehlberg continued.

Places in Warsaw where you can play Disc Golf are few; in fact, Harrison Elementary is only one of three locations in the Warsaw area where people can play disc golf. Grace College also has a course and the other is located in Lucerne Park. Mehlberg encouraged interested people to give it a shot, saying, “Just come out and see what the course looks like and don’t invest a lot of money into it at first, until it is something you find you’re passionate about.”

The Harrison Elementary course is open to the public when from dawn to dusk, when school is not in session.
