jimmy-194x288Jimmy M. “Jake” Jacobson, 76, Monterey, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo, after fighting cancer for the last few years.

Jimmy was born on Sept. 10, 1939 in Chicago to Melvin and Coral (Percival) Jacobson. He was a graduate of Thornton High School class of 1957. On June 16, 1962 Jimmy married Rose Tholl in Midlothian, Ill. They lived in Chicago Heights, Ill. until they moved to Monterey in 1972.

Jimmy was a plumber most of his life, finally retiring from the Culver Academies after 25 years. He enjoyed gardening, going for morning coffee in Monterey and Culver, and taking care of his many grandchildren.

Jimmy is survived by his wife Rose of Monterey, three sons; Jimmy Jacobson Jr. of Rochester; Andrew Jacobson of Monterey; and Anthony (Erin) Jacobson of Rochester; two daughters: Rose Greer of Nashua, Iowa; and Georgana (Tim) Fishburn of Argos; brother Harry (Geri) Jacobson of Cave Creek, Ariz.; sisters: Faith (Fred) York of Albuquerque, N.M. and Shirley Proudfoot of Fort Collins, Colo.; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother: Coral Jacobson; father: Melvin Jacobson; and brother: Donald Jacobson.

A time of visitation will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, on Friday, May 6, from 4–8 p.m. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home on Saturday, May 7, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Cemetery in Monterey.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Odom Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
