
Dorcas Lenore Hawkins, Winona Lake, went home to be with the Lord at 11:17 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, at the age of 90.
She was born June 27, 1925, in Hamlin, Kan., to Ethel (Hartley) and Earl Studebaker. At the age of 10, her family moved to California. On Dec. 5, 1943, in Fresno, Calif., she was married to George James Hawkins. They shared 61 years of marriage together before he passed away July 10, 2005.
Dorcas was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 37 years, where she was a homemaker. She moved to Winona Lake in 1978 and was a beloved piano teacher for many years. Dorcas was part of the Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church community since moving to the area. She greatly loved her Lord, her children and grandchildren.
She will be lovingly remembered by her four sons: John (Jean Minear) Hawkins, Winona Lake, Daniel (Chris) Hawkins, La Fontaine, Tim (Julie) Hawkins, Madison, and Peter (Aurelie) Hawkins, Sheridan, Wyo.; two daughters: Linda (Larry) Unruh, (Winona Lake, and Janice Joy Shennum, Winona Lake; leaves behind 18 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, her husband, two brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw. Her funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, Winona Lake, officiated by Pastor Tom Julien. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
