Wood Given 10 Years In Fatal Motorcycle Accident

WARSAW — Sarah A. Wood, 35, 787 S. Bunting Lane, Warsaw, was sentenced Tuesday, April 26, to 10 years at the Indiana Department of Corrections on a charge of causing the death of another person while operating a vehicle. The sentencing was in accordance with a plea agreement.

Wood was driver of a van which collided with a motorcycle, killing the driver, Larry W. Sidwell, 53, Anderson. The accident occurred Monday, Aug. 3, 2015, at SR 13 and CR 500E, Pierceton. Sidwell died seven days later. Blood tests showed Wood tested positive for the presence of marijuana in the blood. She told police she thought she had smoked marijuana on the Saturday before the crash.

Kosciusko Superior Court III Judge Joe Sutton, suspended five years of Wood’s sentence to be served on probation. She will be given good time credit at the rate of one day for each three days served. He also ordered her driving privileges suspended for 10 years, beginning when released from incarceration.

Wood was also ordered not to have contact with members of the Sidwell family, either directly or indirectly and to pay restitution to the estate of the Larry Sidwell. No amount was available at the time of sentencing.

Her sentence can be served on work release if accepted.
