Warsaw Boys Track: Tigers Hosting Max Truex Invite
WARSAW – The Warsaw boys track team has always taken great pride in performing well at its own Max Truex Invitational.
Don’t expect that trend to change come Friday night.
Coach Matt Thacker’s deep and talented team will welcome seven other teams to the Tiger Athletic Complex for the annual event.
The Tigers stand at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference prior to a league triangular tonight (April 28) in Nappanee versus the host Panthers and Plymouth. Warsaw has won 37 straight NLC meets dating back to 2011.
The Max Truex field will feature the Tigers, along with Carroll, Penn, Hobart, LaPorte, Homestead, Fort Wayne Wayne and Valparaiso. No. 5 Carroll won the Class A championship at the Goshen Relays last Saturday, while Penn finished third in the division for large schools. Warsaw defeated Penn 91-41 in a dual meet back on March 29 at the TAC.
The Tigers have used a blend of experience and youth to put together another outstanding season thus far. The senior duo of hurdler Ross Armey, who will compete for Grace College next season, and distance standout Owen Glogovsky have been stellar on the track. Senior Brandon Reinholt and juniors Landan Perry and Rane Kilburn have been strong in the sprints and relays for the Tigers. The Tigers have also counted on the likes of seniors Luke Wilson, Tommy Hickerson, Lucas Cone and Dylan Childers, along with Kilburn and Brock Riley in the field events.
Action in the invitational begins Friday night with field events at 6 p.m. The 3,200 relay begins competition on the track at 6:30, with the 110 hurdles at 7 and the 100-meter dash at 7:15. The 1,600 is set for 7:25, to be followed by the 400 relay at 7:35, 400 at 7:50, 300 hurdles at 8, 800 at 8:15, 200 at 8:30, 3,200 at 8:40 and the 1,600 relay at 9.
Teams will enter two competitors in each event and two groups in each relay for the invite Friday night. The results of the two entrants will then be combined for one time, distance or height to determine placings for each event. Individuals can participate in a total of four events.
Admission to the Max Truex is $5 per person with pre-schoolers and younger admitted for free.
