Roger L. Heckaman, 75, formerly of North Webster, passed away at 9:24 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw. He was born on June 1, 1940 in Goshen, to Claude A. and Estella “Stella” (Felton) Heckaman.

He graduated from Nappanee High School in 1958 and Humboldt Technological School in Minneapolis, Minn. in 1961. On Oct. 24, 1970 in Nappanee, he was married to Cyndi Best at the Nappanee First Brethren Church. He was the owner/operator of Blue Barn Furniture Stripping and Refinishing in North Webster and formerly worked for the secretary of the president of the Illinois Central Railroad. He previously lived in Nappanee and Chicago before moving to the North Webster area. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, sailing on Lake Wawasee, singing karaoke, and was an avid gardener. He accepted Christ while attending a Sports World conference in Indianapolis with his son Bill.

He is survived by three sons: William “Bill” (Kara) Heckaman, Rochester; John Heckaman, Syracuse; and Mike Heckaman, Columbia City; four grandchildren: Noah, Lucia, Hudson and Harrison; and his wife of 40 years: Cyndi Heckaman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Carole Hoffer

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-noon on Sunday, May 1, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Memorial services will be held at noon in the funeral home with Pastor Harlan Steffen of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel officiating.

Preferred memorials may be given to Roger L. Heckaman Funeral Fund, c/o Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN 46567. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
