Tippecanoe Valley Softball: Vikings Go 1-1 At Wabash Event
WABASH – The Tippecanoe Valley softball team went 1-1 in the Wabash Invitational Saturday.
The Vikings opened play with a 20-4 win over Fort Wayne Wayne.
Abby Betten continued her tear at the plate to pace the Vikings. The junior had four hits, including a home run, and drove in six runs in the win. Betten also scored for runs in the victory.
Valley piled up 17 hits in the win, including nine doubles. The Vikings scored seven runs in the second inning to highlight the offensive outburst.
Freshman Sydney Howard had three hits, including a pair of doubles. Junior Mia Gunnels had two hits and sophomore Kayla Scott two doubles.
Kirsten Prater notched the piching win, allowing just three hits with six strikeouts in the five-inning victory.
Valley lost to host Wabash 20-12 in the title game of the tournament.
The Vikings led 5-1 after the first frame before Wabash stormed back for the win. Wabash collected 13 hits and the Vikings 12 in the contest.
Betten had another big game at the dish. She had three hits, including a double and a home run, and two RBI. Shepherd had two hits and two RBI as did Scott for the Vikings. Freshman Taylor Czichilski had two hits and two RBI. Scott took the pitching loss in the contest.
Valley, now 6-6, hosts Whitko in a Three Rivers Conference game on Monday.
