Mitterling Arrested At Dewart Lake After Foot Pursuit

April 18 — Andrew James Mitterling, 24, 8719 W. CR 1250S, Akron, booked for probation violation and resisting law enforcement. Bond: $3,750 surety and cash.

DEWART LAKE — A report of a suspicious vehicle resulted in a suspect fleeing, a search by officers and a K9 unit and ultimate apprehension of the vehicle’s driver, Monday, April 18. The driver: Andrew James Mitterling, 24, 8719 W. 1250S, Akron, was arrested on a probation violation warrant with an additional charge of fleeing police.

Events began around 7:20 a.m. when officers were called to EMS D10 Lane for a suspicious vehicle. Sgt. Rick Shepherd located the vehicle, but found no driver and learned the reported driver, Mitterling, was wanted on a probation violation warrant.

Shepherd returned to the area, around 3:29 p.m. to discover the vehicle was moved. The vehicle was found at EMS D4 Lane, with Mitterling inside. Mitterling immediately fled from Shepherd and a perimeter established in the area of EMS D4 lane, CR 1000N and CR 1050N. Mitterling was described as wearing a black T-shirt and khaki shorts.

A request for a K-9 unit was made, with Winona Lake Officer Joe Bumbaugh and his K-9 partner responding. The search was concluded at approximately 4:30 p.m. When Mitterling “gave-up” to officers and the K9 unit, near a wooded area.

The KCSD was assisted in the apprehension by officers from Syracuse Police Department and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officers.

Mitterling is being held on $3,000 surety and $750 cash bond.
