South Bend Cubs Sports

SOUTH BEND – The South Bend Cubs have now won two in a row after taking down the Bowling Green Hot Rods 9-3 Monday night at Four Winds Field.

Carson Sands (5 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 strikeouts, 1 walk) gave up two early runs in the top of the third but the South Bend Cubs were able to even the score right away in the bottom of the third, giving Sands the opportunity to settle down.

Tyler Alamo’s one-out single to left field was followed by a Sutton Whiting single to right. PJ Higgins grounded out which moved the runners to second and third and then Donnie Dewees came up with a two-out single to center that scored Alamo and Whiting.

A six-run bottom of the fourth cushioned the game as Sands cruised through the next two innings not allowing a run. A Matt Rose home run to deep left gave the Cubs their first lead of the game.

The win moves the South Bend Cubs to 6-5, and will entertain Bowling Green again Tuesday night with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
