WARSAW — “You have a substantial criminal history,” Superior Court I Judge David Cates said to Ritchie Hernandez Jr. as he sentenced him for burglary, a class B felony; obliterating identification marks on a handgun, a class C felony and robbery resulting in injury, a level 3 felony.
Ritchie Hernandez Jr., 21, 762 W. Eagle St., Warsaw, was sentenced today, March 31, in three different cases ranging from charges from February through December 2014.
Through a plea agreement he plead guilty charges in two of the three cases, with one case being dismissed.
Hernandez received seven years for the burglary charge; four years for obliterating identification marks on a handgun, both to be served concurrently, and nine years for for robbery resulting in injury, to be served consecutively of the other two charges, for a total of 20 years at the Indiana Department of Corrections.
He has also been ordered to have no contact with victims in the cases and to provide medical restitution of $13,762.31.
Cates told Hernandez, “You have self-admitted to having a substance abuse issue, ongoing for years, and have done nothing, as I can tell, to address it.”
Hernandez and girlfriend, Alexis Henry, 18, of Warsaw, entered the home of Henry’s grandmother, using a hidden spare key, and stole checkbooks, money, gift cards, purses, a mini fridge, and the Smith and Wesson handgun, among other items. Police were able to recover all of the stolen items, including the handgun which Hernandez had already filed the serial numbers off of.
Herhandez was charged in May 2014 for a Christmas Eve attack on an individual at the Comfort Inn, following the victim and hitting him with a fist in the head, jamming a knee into the man’s face causing injury. The man was also robbed.
Hernandez also has a pending robbery charge in South Whitley.
