Phillip J. Dennie, 79, died at 11 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2016,
at Miller’s Merry Manor in Warsaw.
He was born on Oct. 31, 1936 in Argos to Chancey and Alma Yarling Dennie. On June 24, 1956 he married his high school sweetheart Jean Ann Dinkledine who survives in Bourbon. They would have been married 60 years in June and were lifetime Bourbon residents.
He was a 1954 graduate of Argos High School. In 1967 at the age of 30, he and his wife started the DENNIE ELECTRIC Company in Warsaw, which is still a Dennie family owned business 49 years later.
He loved his family, his friends, their business, their farmland, their cabin on Arbutus Lake in Michigan, and fishing and hunting trips out west and in Canada and Alaska with his good buddies. He was an avid NASCAR fan and especially Jeff Gordon #24. He enjoyed owning horses and trail riding along with his friends. Throughout their travels he managed to visit 48 states.
He was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and Boss. Past employees tell him he was the best boss they ever had.
Also surviving are two children, a daughter: Kathy Press of Valparaiso; a son, Mike (and Donna) Dennie of Bourbon; four grandchildren: Clint (and Crystal) Dennie, Bourbon; Dane (and Jillian) Woudema of Valparaiso; Chad (and Emily) Dennie of Mentone; and Shelby Woudema and Andy Gault of Zionsville; five great grandchildren: Maddox and Bria Dennie; Colby and Clay Woudema; and Lilly Grace Dennie.
He has three brothers: Allen Dennie of Florida; Andy (Arlene) Dennie of Bourbon; and Joe (Nancy) Denny of Argos; and a good friend and caregiver, Denne Andrews of Bremen.
He was preceded in death by both his parents.
He suffered with Parkinson’s Disease for 21 years.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 31 at the Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home 115 S. Main Street Bourbon, Indiana with Pastor Doug Lemon of the Oak Grove Community Church of Warsaw, officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Bourbon.
Friends may share memories with the family on Wednesday from 4–8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Riley Children’s Hospital where his grandchild
was a patient.
