Coaches Ogle, Kindig Honored By IBCA

INDIANAPOLIS – The duo of basketball coaches Doug Ogle of Warsaw and Chris Kindig of Tippecanoe Valley have been honored by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

The pair are among the 12 coaches statewide chosen through voting by their coaching peers as Bob King Coaches of the Year for the 2015-16 season.

Ogle guided his Warsaw boys team to a 25-2 mark this season. The Tigers earned Class 4-A sectional and regional championships as well as the Northern Lakes Conference title. Ogle, a graduate of Clinton Central High School and Purdue University, is 218-101 in his 14 seasons at WCHS with five NLC titles, five sectional crowns, two regional championships and one semistate title.

Kindig led the Valley girls team to a 25-2 record, including the Three Rivers Conference title and a Class 3-A sectional championship. Kindig, a Tippecanoe Valley and Purdue graduate, is 90-45 in six seasons at Valley.

Ogle and Kindig were honored from coaches in District 1. Also honored from District 1 was Rochester girls coach Tony Stesiak. Stesiak directed the Zebras to a 24-2 mark. including a Class 2-A sectional title. He is 249-120 in 16 seasons at Rochester, including a Class 2-A state championship in 2004.

The IBCA Boys Coaches of the Year also includes T.J. Lux of Merrillville, Jimmie Howell of Lapel, David McCollough of Shenandoah, Matt Britton of Bloomfield and Jim Shannon of New Albany. Honored on the girls’ side were Doug Laker of Greenfield-Central, Andy Maguire of Zionsville, Scott Smith of Jac-Cen-Del and Missy Voyles of North Harrison.

All 12 coaches will be honored at the 2016 IBCA Clinic on April 22-23 at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis.

The Coach of the Year award is named for the late Bob King, the IBCA executive director from 1984-94. King was a Lebanon native who coached at Sacred Heart and Shortridge high schools in Indianapolis before serving as an assistant basketball coach at Purdue and later an assistant and associate athletic director at Purdue.
