Warsaw Hoops Pair Honored By IBCA

basketballINDIANAPOLIS – Warsaw’s outstanding guard duo of Paul Marandet and Kyle Mangas have received another honor for their outstanding season on the hardwood.

Senior Marandet and junior Mangas have been tabbed as members of the IBCA/Subway All-State teams for the 2015-16 season.

Marandet was named as a choice to the Senior Large School (Class 4-A and Class 3-A) All-State team. The 6-0 guard ranked second in scoring and led the Tigers in assists and free throw percentage.

Mangas was chosen as a pick to the Underclass Large School All-State squad. The 6-3 guard averaged a team-high 19.4 points-per-game and ranked first on the Tigers in both 3-pointers and steals.

Marandet and Mangas, who was chosen as a member of the North Group Junior All-Stars on Wednesday, led Warsaw to a 25-2 mark. The Tigers won conference, sectional and regional championships before a 40-37 loss to McCutcheon in the semistate last Saturday night.

The Senior Supreme 15 team included Brachen Hazen of Columbia City. The Senior Large School All-State list included Reontre Lawrence of South Bend Riley, while Chase Fierstos of Manchester was on the Senior Small School list. Tabbed as honorable mention choices to the Senior list were Josh Anders (Plymouth), Kurtis Hochstetler (Northridge), Braxton Linville (NorthWood), Andrew Yoder (Westview) and Jair Rodgers (Mishawaka Marian). Linville will play at Grace College and Fierstos is bound for Bethel College next season.

The Underclassmen Supreme 15 features Parker Hazen of Columbia City. Hazel, along with his older brother Brachen, led the Eagles to a Class 3-A sectional title.

Standout guard Nate Walpole of Whitko, who ranked among the state’s top scorers at 26.7 points-per-game, was named to the Underclassmen Small School All-State team.

Vinny Miranda of NorthWood was tabbed for the Underclassmen Large School All-State squad, joining Mangas. Honorable mention selections for the Underclassmen included Damezi Anderson (South Bend Riley), Noah Applegate (Penn), Camron Bontrager (Lakeland), Nick Felke (Plymouth) and David McAtee (Manchester).
