Earl Eugene Hill, 93, passed away on March 6, 2016, at home after a short illness. Earl was born in Redford, Mich. He married Eva Jane Nixon on April 4, 1947, she preceded him in death on Oct. 13, 1967. Earl then married Norma Jean Bulla on July 6. 1968, she preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 2005.
Earl served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942-1945. He was a tank driver under General Patton for the 12th armored Mystery Division, and 714th Tank Battalion Division, The Hell Cats. He worked at Wells Aluminum as a maintenance supervisor for twenty-seven years. He retired and moved to California and worked at General Dynamics in maintenance for 11 more years where he retired. Earl moved back to Walkerton in 2007 to be near his family and friends. He was active in the Disabled American Veterans, Marshall County, Unit 2; a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. He enjoyed going out to breakfast each day talking with friends. Earl will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Earl is survived by one sister: Ruth Hill Lewis, Kodak, Tenn.; sons: High D. (Sherry) Hill, Plymouth; Eric T. (Joselyn) Hill, Ontario, Canada; and Cliff Mull, San Juan Batist, Calif.; daughters: Karen (Harold) Clevenger, Walkerton; Margene (Ron Frakes) Chrisman, Camas, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and his faithful dog: Snickers. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 11, at Palmer Funeral Home, North Liberty. Services will conclude with military honors by the U.S. Army and DAV. Friends may visit with the family from noon to 2 p.m. p.m. Friday, in the funeral home. Burial will take place at Westlawn Cemetery, North Liberty at a later date.
