M. Jean Mullen, 81, Columbia City, passed away at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City. Born September 12, 1934, in Whitley County, she was the daughter of Ralph and Cecilia A. (Troutman) Meinika.
She graduated from Washington Township High School with the Class of 1952. Jean was married to Lyle R. Michel on September 19, 1953 and after he passed on July 28, 1976, she married Maurice Frieden. After his passing in 1984, she married Richard Mullen, who also precedes her in death. Mildred was a member of Washington Township Homemakers and Washington Center United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son: Dan (Deb) Michel, South Whitley; daughters: Diane Fulk, Columbia City; Barbara (Garry) Thornell, Gas City; Darlene Michel, Fort Wayne; Susan (Ken) Michael Patterson, Hanover; brother: Richard Meinika, Fort Wayne; companion of 17 years: Chuck Porter, North Webster; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant brother: Ralph Meinika Jr.; and a great-granddaughter: Karis Bolinger.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday, March 7, at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at South Whitley Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given in her memory to Washington Township United Methodist Church or Miller’s Merry Manor towards their activities department.
