WINONA LAKE — Registered Investment Advisory firm SYM Financial Advisors announced the promotion of Andy Popenfoose to chief investment officer. The announcement was made by Rod Coleman, SYM Financial president.
“Andy joined SYM with a great deal of industry experience,” said Coleman. “The research he conducts to inform strategy impacted our investment recommendations from day one: those we’ve made as well as those we haven’t, both equally valuable. We expect Andy’s keen thinking and vision to enhance the strategic direction of our organization for years to come.”
Popenfoose will continue to work alongside Neil Donahoe, SYM’s chief investment officer since 1987.
Prior to joining SYM in January, 2014, Popenfoose worked at the Chicago office of Analysis Group, an economic consulting and strategy firm. He also lectured courses in investment and portfolio management at the Loyola University, Chicago, Quinlan School of Business and contributed research to expert testimonies heard by congressional boards and in several of our nation’s largest financial court cases.
Popenfoose holds a bachelor of science in management and a master of science in finance from Purdue University as well as a master of business administration from Winthrop University. He is an Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran and in 2014 and has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, one of the most demanding credentials in the investment industry.
In his personal time, Popenfoose enjoys traveling in pursuit of a mountaineering goal to summit every “fourteener” in the continental United States. He has conquered 12 of the approximately 67 peaks. In fall, 2015, Popenfoose traveled to Nepal to participate in humanitarian relief efforts near the base of Mt. Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain in the world.
