Warsaw Players, Ogle Honored By NLC

Warsaw SportsWARSAW – The Warsaw boys basketball team dominated the Northern Lakes Conference again this season to the tune of another league championship.

It’s only fitting that the undefeated Tigers also dominate the All-NLC team announced tonight.

All five of the starters for the Tigers, who are 20-0 on the season, earned All-NLC honors for the 2015-16 campaign.

Warsaw coach Doug Ogle was also tabbed as the NLC Coach of the Year after guiding his team to its second straight 7-0 mark in the league.

The Tigers, who are ranked No. 4 in Class 4-A and are the lone unbeaten team in the state, are led on the All-NLC squad by its outstanding backcourt duo of Kyle Mangas and Paul Marandet. Junior guard Mangas and senior guard Marandet were named to the All-NLC team. Mangas is the leading scorer for the Tigers at 19.5 points-per-game, while Marandet is second at 12.6.

Warsaw junior Jeremy David also earned All-NLC honors as chosen by the league coaches. The 6-4 forward is the top rebounder for the Tigers at 4.6 caroms per game and also averages 4.8 ppg.

NorthWood, which is ranked No. 2 in Class 3-A, also had a trio of players named All-NLC. The Panthers, who finished 6-1 in league play, have seniors Braxton Linville and Dakiyron Fox, along with junior Vinny Miranda, honored by the conference.

Both Plymouth and Northridge each had a pair of players on the All-NLC squad. The Pilgrims are respresented by senior Josh Anders and junior Nick Felke. The Raiders placed senior Kurtis Hochstetler and junior Luke Morrison on the team.

The remainder of the All-NLC choices are junior Denzel Halliburton of Concord, senior Jon Bailey of Elkhart Memorial and senior Brady Bechtel of Goshen.

Warsaw senior Evan Schmidt and junior Riley Rhoades were named honorable mention choices to the All-NLC team.

Wawasee junior Tyler Smith was also an honorable mention selection. Completing the honorable mention picks were junior Cedric Mitchell of Concord, senior Cam Eveland of Plymouth, senior A.J. Gary of Elkhart Memorial and junior C.J. Detweiler of Goshen.

Warsaw won the NLC title at 7-0 for the second straight year. NorthWood was runner-up at 6-1, followed by Plymouth (5-2), Goshen (3-4), Northridge (3-4), Concord (2-5), Elkhart Memorial (2-5) and Wawasee (0-7).
