WARSAW – A final hurrah at the Whitman facility for Warsaw gymnastics turned into fine time to post its best score of the season. Blowing its previous top score out of the water, Warsaw rang up a 98.25 to best visiting Lakeland’s 94.175 Tuesday night.

Having hovered in the high 80s and low 90s for the season, Warsaw hadn’t broken 94.35 all year. Until Tuesday, when Warsaw blew past its previous best with quality performances for its core-four performers.
Remi Beckham continued to put together a solid freshman season, scoring a season-best 9.2 on floor as well as 8.45 on beam and 8.7 on vault – all tops in the meet – and a second-place 7.675 on bars to score a very impressive 34.025 in all-around. Beckham had a pair of big runs on the floor as well as a vamped skill set in her dance, noted Warsaw coach Megan Kammerer.
“Remi has been adding some more difficult skills into her routines, and you saw her hit them on the floor that got her that score,” Kammerer said.
Hayley Campbell also performed well on floor, scoring an 8.75 to finish third, but hitting a huge combo to start her routine while helped flow into the remainder of her performance. Campbell was also second on vault (8.3) and finished fourth on bars (7.2) and beam (8.025). Campbell concluded with an all-around of 32.275, third overall.
Anna Wainscott nearly got through her beam routine without a fall, only wobbling off the apparatus right at the end of her final pass. Her score of 8.375 was good for second in the meet, and her 7.3 bars score was third overall. Wainscott also posted an 8.0 on vault and 8.275 on floor to finish at 31.95 in all-around tallies.

Lone Warsaw senior Nadiya Burritt competed in everything but floor, scoring 7.6 on vault, 5.525 on bars and 5.15 on beam.
“I thought our beam routines were pretty good,” Kammerer said. “We were shooting for no-falls, and almost got there. We have some things to clean up before sectionals, but we hit some of the skills we wanted to add in to get our scores higher.”
Lakeland’s Darien Freeman was second overall in the all-around scoring with a 32.825, helped by the top bars score at 8.05 and third-place beam score at 8.2. Whittney Ray was second on floor at 8.85 and Shay Hill took third on vault at 8.25.
Warsaw closes out its regular season schedule with two road meets, the first Thursday at West Noble and then next Wednesday at regional host Huntington North. Warsaw will then compete Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Wawasee Sectional. The score really impressed Kammerer, who felt the numbers alone could push her mini but mighty four to a new level.
“Tonight that 98 is a result of us practicing and hitting a solid routine, no falls and being clean in performance,” Kammerer said. “That’s the thing that gets up there in the high 90s is the cleanliness in the routines we have. I like the direction the girls are headed with sectionals coming.”
