Hannah Belle Marrs, 94, formerly of South Whitley, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, at Peabody Home, North Manchester where she resided since Dec. 2004.

She was born Nov. 19, 1921, in Whitley County, a daughter of Carlyle Roberts and Lettie Mae (Bayman) Thomson. Her formative years were spent in Cleveland Township. She graduated from South Whitley High School.

On December 2, 1939 she was united in marriage to Barton E. Marrs. They made their home north of South Whitley until the mid 1970’s when they moved to Chapman Lake. Mr. Marrs died Feb. 22, 1980. In the Fall of 1980, Hannah moved to Rochester until returning to South Whitley in 1990.

Hannah devoted her life to being mother and a homemaker as well as a life mate to her husband. She was employed a short time in the cafeteria at South Whitley School and was a lifetime member of Collamer Christian Church.

Surviving relatives include three children: Steven B. (Carolyn) Marrs, Olney, Ill.; Thomas C. (Shannon) Marrs, Rochester; and Janet A. (Steven) Keirn, South Whitley, 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Alice Latta, Warsaw. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister: Irene Stump; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, at Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley with visitation from 1-3 p.m. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.
