INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Symphonic Choir will hold auditions on Saturday, Feb. 20, for singers interested in singing with the venerated arts institution. Auditions for adult singers who have experience in choral singing will be held for all voice parts (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) and will be scheduled through the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir audition coordinator. Persons interested in scheduling an audition for the 79-year-old choral ensemble must do so no later than Wednesday, Feb. 10.
“The Symphonic Choir is comprised of nearly 200 singers who represent some of the most talented, dedicated musicians in our community,” states Artistic Director Eric Stark. “These singers are all-volunteer, but participate in a competitive audition process to be a part of this chorus.”
Auditions consist of singing one prepared piece of music selected at the discretion of the applicant, plus singing one prepared excerpt from Handel’s Messiah as noted on the Symphonic Choir’s website, and sight reading.
“Because the Symphonic Choir rehearses at a brisk pace to prepare for the many performances in a typical season, our singers need to be quite comfortable with sight reading,” says Stark.
The Indianapolis Symphonic Choir will make its return to New York City’s Carnegie Hall in October for the first time since 1978.
Persons interested in joining the Symphonic Choir to perform in spring 2016 concerts as well as the Carnegie Hall concert are encouraged to audition in February. Singers should be 18 or older with prior experience singing in a choir. There are no financial dues to be a part of the Choir.
