HOLLAND, MICH. — Better late than never.
A book borrowed from Herrick District Library in Holland, Mich., was returned last week just a little overdue. Someone checked it out in 1967!
The library received a letter from a former student at Hope College who said the book ended up getting mixed in with personal belongings and packed away in a trunk. It wasn’t discovered until recently, when some of the personal items were shipped to New York and he found the book among them.
“Please accept the book and my modest donation to cover what I am sure is a tremendous fine,” the man wrote.
He included a $100 donation with the book. The library posted a photo of the letter on its Facebook page.
