DEFIANCE, Ohio – Five school records were broken during the Grace’s track and field indoor season opener on Saturday.

Additionally, 18 of Grace’s performances at the Defiance Invitational merited entrance to NCCAA Indoor Nationals.

Freshman Cameron Johnson broke two school records in his first collegiate meet. He set the 60-meter hurdle record in 8.76 seconds and also teamed up with Joel Zook, Jared Poorman and Austin Keisling to break the 4×200 relay time in 1:33.18.

Keisling also set his second school record in the 60 dash, sprinting across the finish line in 7.27 seconds during the preliminary race.

Macallister Seitz and Hannah Treadway set their respective records in the weight throw. Seitz was the top collegian in his event, heaving his weight 52-feet-9.25. Treadway tossed her weight 47-0.75 to place second. Seitz and Treadway each qualified for NCCAA Nationals in both the weight throw and shot put.

“We have to be pleased with the level of performances in our first meet,” said Grace coach Jeff Raymond. “Any time you have school records and personal-best performances, it demonstrates continued improvement for our program. We still have a long way to go, but this was a great start.”

On the women’s side, Jamie Annis won her first collegiate race in the 60 hurdles, qualifying for NCCAA Nationals in the process. Paige Kindig (pole vault) and Katelyn McCullough (800m) also won their events and qualified for NCCAAs.

Micah Pollard in the 60 and Jo Boren in the 400 also met the NCCAA standard.

For the men’s team, Nathan Brown qualified for NCCAA Nationals in three events — 60 hurdles, long jump and high jump.

Bennett Parker met the NCCAA mark in the high jump, and Lance Taylor and KeJuan Leek both met the mark in the 400. Sam Hall hit the NCCAA standard in the 800 race, and Jacob Brown did likewise in the weight throw.

The Lancers will take on the Trine Indoor Classic next Friday as they continue the indoor season.
