Mr. Marvin W. Holloway, 83, Rochester, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at 5:10 p.m., Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, at his residence.

On May 28, 1932, Marvin Wayne Holloway was born in Rochester. He was a treasured son of Elvin “Peck” and Eva Ruth Bechtel Holloway. Growing up as one of nine children he shared his childhood with two sisters and six brothers. With great Zebra pride, Marvin graduated from Rochester High School in 1950.

Patriotism beckoned and Marv answered the call serving with the United States Army, entering on July 17, 1953. During his service stint he was stationed in Korea and Hawaii. He was awarded the national defense service medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon and sharpshooter. He was honorably discharged on July 12, 1955.

Marvin and Mary Ellen Foster were married on May 17, 1952. Together they shared 48 years of life’s adventures. Mary Ellen passed away on June 18, 2000. Their union produced a daughter and three sons. Three more generations have been added to the family tree with 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. Later, Marvin married June Large who passed away in 2007.

With a strong work ethic, Marv was a dedicated employee of the Safeway Steel Company more than four decades. He was a quality control engineer for the Rochester plant and following it’s closing, moved to South Carolina retiring two years later. More recently he worked at Sav-A-Lot from 1998 – 2008.

Marvin was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Logansport.

To relax, Marvin enjoyed all aspects of ceramics. He created gifts for family and special friends especially Christmas themed figurines, nativities and Christmas trees. Woodworking was another area of expertise. Marv especially enjoyed refinishing wood and making repairs restoring to like-new condition.

With great joy, Marvin initiated a family tradition on Christmas eve. He personally took charge of culinary delights for the family snack table. Among his family’s favorites are million dollar fudge, sausage balls and spicy pecans.

Left to cherish Marvin’s memory are a daughter: Tina M. (Edgar) McKee, Rochester; three sons: Mark S. (Danette) Holloway, Palm City, Fla, Thomas F. (Tami) Holloway, Rochester, Christopher W. Holloway, Rochester; 11 grandchildren: Mark (Jennifer) Holloway, Brooke Holloway, Derrick (Kim) Holloway, Jessica (Rick) Prater, Brittlyn (Troy) Mow, Candace (Joshua) Zehner, Tadd Hettinger, Nicole Holloway, Christopher Holloway, Alyssa (Garth) Simpson, and Nate Holloway; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; one brother: Bernard “Bernie” (Grace) Holloway, Rochester; two sisters-in-law: Clair Holloway, Margaret Ann Kocker and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Marvin in death are his parents, wife, a daughter: Marva Elaine; a great granddaughter Tinsleigh; two sisters: Wanda Chalk and Rose Mary McGlothin; six brothers: Russell, Walter, Howard, Lester, Gerald and Theodore Holloway.

A celebration of the life of Marvin Wayne Holloway will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with Bishop William Tincher officiating.

Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Citizens Cemetery.

Military rites will be conducted by the Fulton County Honor Guard and the US Army Honor’s Team.
