Ruth D. Mast, 93, formerly of Knapp Lake, died at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City where she had been a resident since Oct. 2013.
She was born July 7, 1922, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of George J. and Mary R. (Nebur) Doehla. Her formative years were spent in Fort Wayne. She graduated from South Side High School.
On March 12, 1942 she was united in marriage to Clifton M. Mast. They made their home in Fort Wayne until 1953 when they moved to Roanoke. In 1975, they moved to their home at Knapp Lake. Mr. Mast died in Feb. 1992.
Ruth worked as a waitress at the Fort Wayne Airport and Elks in Huntington before doing food demonstrations at Scott’s and Kroger.
She was a member of American Legion Post #253 Auxiliary in North Webster and Wolf Lake V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Surviving relatives include three children: Thomas B. (Sandy) Mast, Avilla; John D. Mast, Larwill; and Mary E. (Scot) Bradley, Cromwell; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother: Donald J. Doehla, Fort Wayne; and a sister: Betty M. Mast, Avilla. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son: George C. Mast; and a sister: Doris A. Reek.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with the family receiving friends after 1 p.m.
