ELKHART — Blake Layman, Levi Sparks and Anthony Sharp of the Elkhart Four were sentenced for burglary Thursday during a re-sentencing hearing.
Layman received 10 years and Sparks received 9 years — one less than Layman because the judge said he didn’t go into the house.
Sharp also received 10 years, however doesn’t have six months off because of GED completion.
The Department Of Corretions still has to make it official with their calculation, but Sparks’ lawyer believes he may already qualify for release.
According to WSBT, the judge said aggravating factors for Layman outweighed the mitigating, but gave the advisory sentence of 10 years. He told Layman, “you’re on the right path.”
Homeowner Rodney Scott testified about the impact of the 2012 burglary and shooting, saying it was “devastating” and “turned his life upside down.”
Layman’s family says they couldn’t be happier. With time served and good behavior, Layman could be out in three months.
