Cold Shooting Costly To Bethel Ladies

Bethel Pilots SportsMARION – The Bethel College women’s basketball team has been dialed in from distance this season.

The Pilots picked a bad time on Saturday to go ice-cold from 3-point range.

Bethel suffered through a tough shooting day in dropping a 69-47 final at No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan in Crossroads League play.

The Pilots entered play Saturday as the top 3-point shooting team in the conference with 104 triples. The Pilots had made at least four treys in every game this season. Bethel went 0-13 from distance in the loss as part of a 16-52 overall shooting performance from the field.

IWU led from start to finish in the contest. The hosts led 16-7 after the first quarter and 31-21 at halftime. IWU then outscored Bethel 19-8 in the third period to put the game away.

Savannah Bley, a former NorthWood High School standout, led Bethel with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Ashley Lutz, a Penn product, had nine points and Danielle Davis eight for the Pilots. Aimee Swihart, a Goshen High School grad, added seven points.

Kelsey Key had 18 points and Haley Woodruff 10 for IWU.

Bethel falls to 7-9 overall and 2-2 in league play. IWU improves to 14-2 overall and 3-1 in conference action.

Bethel hosts No. 7 Marian and IWU plays at Goshen College on Wednesday in league games at 7 p.m.
