LCA Hoops Teams Go 1-3 In Tourney

Lakeland SportsGOSHEN – The Lakeland Christian Academy basketball teams faced some familiar foes Saturday in the Bethany Christian Tournament.

In the end, the Cougars ended up going 1-3 in the girls and boys holiday hoops event hosted by the Bruins.

The LCA girls started the day with a 43-33 loss to Bethany Christian.

Rachel Sand led the way for the Cougars with 14 points to go with five rebounds and four blocked shots.

Hannah Delp scored nine points and Melissa Goss five. Ellie Nieveen added three points and Brady Gross two as LCA lost for the second time this season to the Bruins.

Delp was on fire in game two as she poured in 31 points as LCA defeated South Bend Trinity 64-46.

The Cougars, who beat Trinity for the second time this season, outscored them 37-14 in the second half. Goss had 12 points and Sand 10 for the winners. Carissa Urschalitz had six points, Gross four and Nieveen one.

LCA, now 5-6, will host its own tournament Dec. 29-30.

The LCA boys team dropped two on Saturday. The Cougars lost 54-39 to host Bethany in game one.

Jake Harmon led LCA with 11 points. Josh McDaniel and Jon Harmon each scored eight points and Connor Blum had seven. Carter Twombly netted three points and Eli Raymond two as LCA lost to the Bruins for the second time this season.

LCA then lost a 63-52 final to South Bend Trinity in its second contest.  Raymond led the way with 16 points. Jon Harmon had 15 points and McDaniel 14 for the Cougars. Noah and Carter Twombly each scored three points and Styler Harris one.

LCA, now 0-7, will host its own tournament Dec. 29-30.
