Trojans Can’t Catch Dotlich, Warriors

WINAMAC – A showdown of the final two unbeaten teams in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference had Winamac hold off Triton, 56-49, Friday night in boys buckets.

Winamac, coming in ranked No. 14 in the Class 2-A poll, moved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the HNAC.

Derek Dotlich was huge for the Warriors, recording a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds. Dotlich was a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line. Colin McGee was 7-11 from the floor was 6-9 from the line to finish with 20 points, adding seven rebounds to the winning cause.

Triton, ranked No. 10 in the latest Class 1-A poll, dropped to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the HNAC.

The Big Three again paced the Trojans. Masen Yeo and Jordan Anderson each scored 15 points, but were just 5-16 from three-point range and 9-26 overall from the floor. Grant Johnson added 11 points, two boards and two blocks.

In the JV contest, Winamac maintained its second half lead just enough to edge Triton 36-30. Winamac took a two-point lead into halftime as well as the fourth quarter before holding the Trojans to just five points in the final quarter. Brody Brumm led the victors with 12 points and three rebounds while Drew Stichter tallied seven points and six rebounds and Ethan Berry notched five points and nine boards.

Winamac, the last remaining undefeated team in the HNAC, will host McCutcheon Saturday night. Triton will visit undefeated Warsaw Tuesday in a girls/boys doubleheader.
