MECHANICSBURG, PENN. — Most people are familiar with Santa C., but in central Pennsylvania a man referred to as Santa B has created quite a buzz by getting in on the cause of Claus.
The anonymous person entered the Walmart in Mechanicsburg on Monday and paid off the remaining balance on everyone’s layaway costs.
That balance just happened to be $79,000.
Steven Myers, the store manager, says he came face-to-face with Santa B. “When I got to meet Santa yesterday, he had those rosy cheeks and he had the white beard, so I’m going to say Santa is real,” Myers said.
The generosity helped pay for gifts for 200-300 area families.
Penny Geedy said she was one of the appreciative people who had their gifts paid for. “It’s great to see this,” Geedy said. “I was worried if I was going to get all my checks in time to pick up the presents.”
Myers says this is not the first time Santa B has done this generous act, but it’s believed this person did the same this year at the Walmart in Harrisburg.
“He just said he wants to give back to neighbors and it’s just a way of showing appreciation, taking care of the community,” Myers said.
Myers said out of respect for Santa B, he will not be revealing his identity. He also may agree Santa B isn’t the real St. Nick, but considering what the big guy in red stands for — being kind, benevolent, giving and bringing smiles to children — it’s hard to argue that this Santa is just about as real as it gets.
